Letter to Teachers

Dear Principal

The European Commission Office in Northern Ireland, in partnership with NICILT (the Northern Ireland Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research) at Queen’s University Belfast, invites you to join us for the Opportunity Europe Euro Quiz 2018.

The Opportunity Europe Euro Quiz is designed specifically for Key Stage 3 students in post-primary schools.  Based on the KS3 curriculum, the Euro Quiz will test students’ knowledge of a range of areas . Each quiz event will be for a maximum of 10 teams with 6 students per team. We would ask you to select 2 students from each of the year groups in years 8, 9 and 10. Please note only one team per school may be entered.   Places at the regional venues will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so please get your on-line entry forms completed as soon as possible.

For 2018 all information on regional heats, rules and format for the competition and the entry form are on this website and can be found by using the menu bar at the top of this page.

We hope the information is easy to follow, but if you still have questions please don’t hesitate to use the form on the “Contact Us” page or email us using – queries@euroquiz.online and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Each regional heat will begin with registration and refreshments at 10.30am.  We will start the Quiz itself with a warm up round at 10.50am and each Euro Quiz heat should finish up around 12.30pm, when we will offer students and teachers a finger buffet lunch.  The event will close around 1pm.

Every student taking part will receive a certificate of participation, together with an EU goody bag.  Prizes will be awarded to the teams in first and second places in each heat.

The first and second team from each regional heat will go forward to compete at the Northern Ireland Final taking place in Belfast in May 2018.

Please draw this Euro Quiz website to the attention of relevant colleagues in your school.

As places are allocated on a first-come first-served basis, the Entry Form should be completed online as soon as possible.  If you don’t yet know the names of your team members, these can be notified later.

When registering teacher contact details and students’ names, please also let us know if anyone in your group has specific dietary or access requirements.

We look forward to welcoming you to these fun quiz events!

Colette FitzGerald, Head of Office

  • Please be aware that your students may be photographed at the regional heats, and that the Euro Quiz Grand Final will be filmed and streamed live on the internet, so please ensure that you have obtained parental permission for all students taking part in the Opportunity Europe Euro Quiz events.
  • As this is a schools quiz, we would ask that students taking part come in school uniform.
